All the editors of the LA Weekly were suddenly fired earlier this week. This firing came as a surprise and was not expected by the staff. According to head editor Mara Shalhoup, "“Nine of 13 editorial staffers are gone, including all five editors and all but one staff writer." Last month Voice Media Group sold the publication to Semanal Media. Semanal Media was created for the purpose of the magazine and its owner/investors are not currently known. The law firm that handled the purchase, Dirks, Van Essen & Murray, refused to identify who owns Semanal Media. On November 9, Brian Calle, the person hired by Semanal to manage the publication, stated that he had no plans to change the editorial bent of the paper.
